3.3.1. Preparation

Heads are removed and mounted for dissection from both anterior and posterior aspects. Beeswax alone is too soft to hold the head firmly, and a stiffer cement must be used. A wax-resin mixture is suitable, and may be used to mount the heads on small pieces of acetate or Perspex® sheet, these in turn being temporarily anchored in the dissecting dish by melting the wax in the dish at their corners with the toe of the bent wire. The heads should be embedded deeply, with their upper surfaces almost level with the surface of the cement.
