6.10.8. Adding a grid

To add a numbered grid around the map:

  1. Go to View (main menu).
  2. Select Data Frame Properties.
  3. Select Grids.
  4. Select New Grid.
  5. Select the Measured Grid option (this is for projected coordinate systems (meters)), Graticule is for Geographic coordinate systems (latitude/longitude)).
  6. Choose the Labels only option.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Here you could change the axes and labels, click Next.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Click OK.

To adjust the properties of the grid, go back into the View > Data Frame Properties > Grids menu. Here, there is also the option to convert the grid to graphics in order to manually adjust it. See Fig. 66 for the final map in ArcMap.
