7.8.1. Example 1: Computing mean coordinates

A very basic analysis could be to compute the mean coordinates of the honey bee locations. Of course this could be done by computing the X and Y coordinates into an attribute first, but now we will use the tool mean coordinate(s):

  1. Go to Vector.
  2. Select Analysis Tools.
  3. Choose Mean coordinate(s).
  4. Select the input vector layer (e.g. bees_colony_locations.shp).
  5. Specify the output shapefile (Fig. 106).
  6. Start the calculation with OK.

The new shapefile will contain one point at the coordinates 577289.7 / 184622.7.
