2.1.2. Immobilising adults

Researchers are often required to immobilise adult honey bees, for example, when inoculating individuals with parasites during experiments (see section 2.3.on microinjection) or when removing live honey bees from hoarding cages or colonies to study intra-host parasite development. It is essential that sensitive body parts of the honey bee, such as the abdomen, antennae, eyes, and mouthparts, are not disturbed or damaged during immobilisation.
