Analysis in silico

Multiple nucleic acid sequences of the virus, obtained from public sequence databases and from a diverse range of biological and geographic sources, are compared in silico with each other and unrelated viruses using BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool; Altschul et al., 1990), to identify regions of variability and conservation. A series of possible diagnostic assays are designed using bioinformatics tools, based on the particular diagnostic requirements for the method.
