The Macedonian documentary movie “Honeyland” won three awards on the Sundance festival 2019!

The Macedonian documentary movie “Honeyland” won three awards on the Sundance festival 2019!

The documentary movie “Honeyland” tells the story of a woman, named Atidze, who keeps honey bees in tune with nature. “One half for me, half for you” perfectly illustrates Atidze’s beekeeping philosophy which is based on a balance between the mankind and the natural resources. The movie also shows her daily struggles with the challenges originating from the “outer” world.

The movie won the Grand Jury Prize at the “Sundance Film Festival 2019” in the world cinema documentary competition. “Honeyland”, directed by Ljubo Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska, was made as part of the Nature Conservation Programme in Macedonia – a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), coordinated by “Farmahem” – Skopje, and supported by the Macedonian Film Agency.

“Honeyland” won the following awards:

  • Grand Jury Prize for the best documentary film,
  • Best Cinematography Award for the cameramen Fajmi Daut and Samir Ljuma and
  • Special Jury Award for Impact for Change.
