Prof. Joana Amaral has been developing work on Food authentication with recent works being conducted on Honey authenticity. With this purpose, different molecular biology tools have been and are currently being developed for the entomological authentication of honey. She is currently leading a national project that includes this point as one of the objectives (authentication of honey produced by Apis mellifera iberiensis mtDNA lineage A), together with the botanical authentication of honey.
Prof. Joana Amaral has currently a H-index of 29, is author/co-author of 13 chapter books and 76 papers indexed to Scopus. She is currently the Chair of the Food Chemistry Division of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS).
