DESCRIPTION
Dear friends and colleagues,
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 2024 Spring Workshop of the Research Network of Sustainable Bee Breeding, the Task Force within COLOSS for Breeding and Conservation. The workshop will be held on March 13th, 2024 at the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, Spain. It will follow after the Varroa control Task force workshop at the same venue (12th March), and it precedes the COLOSS Training school «Methods for resilience breeding and management» (14th March).
The agenda will focus on the organization of common activities and collaborative projects, such as:
- Update on the common Breeding book: “Sustainable Bee Breeding: why and how”
- Collaborative efforts in the area of honey bee diversity and breeding
- Knowledge exchange on ongoing projects focusing on sustainable breeding and biodiversity conservation
The workshop is open to all COLOSS members. Part of the workshop will be held in the hybrid form, but not the whole workshop. Detailed agenda will follow.

Travel info
Bilbao is best reached by plane. Bilbao International Airport is conveniently located 12 km from the city center (https://www.aena.es/en/bilbao.html, www.bilbaoair.info ). There is a direct Busline (A3247, every 15min) to the city center with stops in Gran Vía, Plaza Moyua, Alameda Recalde and Bilbao Intermodal. Taxi from Airport to City Center costs around ~35eur.
The workshop will take place at the University building in the city center: Bizkaia Aretoa, (Avenida Abandoibarra, 3, 48009 Bilbao). Bilbao center is a walker friendly city, and workshop venue and suggested hotels are easily reached by walking along the river Nervión.

Bilbao is home to a range of hotels, apartments and B&Bs, all within walking distance of the venue and the city centre. ABSTRACTS
The submission of an abstract is recommended but not required, unless you wish to have it published in the Workshop Proceedings.
The deadline for abstract submission is 25th of February.
