A bee master since 2001, and provincial apiary inspector since 2015, Diane teaches beekeeping and does extension work for British Columbia's (BC) Ministry of Agriculture in Western Canada. Diane’s run up to 100 colonies from her Bee Happy Honey farm in the Cariboo’s Soda Creek valley.
Diane served as second vice president of the BC Honey Producer Association (BCHPA) in 2003/04. Was editor of the provincial quarterly journal BeesCene from 2006 to 2011. She received the BCHPA President’s Award for Service in 2008. In 2013 Diane became a certified beekeeping instructor through the BCHPA certified programme. She also spent several years as the volunteer co-ordinating editor of Doug and Eileen McCutcheon’s book, A History of Beekeeping in British Columbia from 1950 to 2000, published in 2013.
Fond of pollinators, since 2012 Diane certified as a hummingbird bander and monitor of these flying wonders as part of citizen scientist The Hummingbird Project of BC. http://rpbo.org/hummingbirds.php#
When not chasing swarms around the countryside, Diane can be found at home with husband Dave and their menagerie of dogs, cats, horses, chickens, ducks, and rescue donkey Fanny.
