I have over 10 years experience of using IOT sensors and data analytics to remotely monitor honey bees. During this time I have worked closely with beekeepers and scientists in Europe, USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia on a range of projects investigating honey bee behaviour. I have been involved with the development and use of sensors for monitoring brood temperature and humidity, colony acoustics, hive weight, foraging activity (bee counters) and in field pollination monitoring (detection of bees on flowers). Behaviours investigated include swarming, brood thermoregulation, foraging, and winter clustering, and also the impact of external factors such as weather/microclimate, forage availability, pesticides, disease, pests and parasites on colony health and status.
