I am a biologist and physicist and work as a senior scientist and deputy head at the Department of Ecological Modelling at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig, and as a professor for Theoretical Ecology at the University of Potsdam. I co-authored both the first monograph and first textbook on individual-based modelling. My main research focus is on optimizing model development, communication, and validation. I have been involved in modelling a broad range of plant and animal populations and communities, including honey bees, i.e. the model BEEHAVE, developed in 2014 by M. Becher an others. Currently (2022), we are using and developing BEEHAVE in two German and one EU project.
