Doctor Anna Gajda is a head of the Department of Pathology and Veterinary Diagnostics and a head of the Laboratory of Bee Diseases at the Institute of Vetery Medicine in Warsaw University of Life Sciences. She is also a veterinarian specializing in honeybee diseases and a beekeeper with 16 years of experience. In her career as a researcher she researches both managed and wild pollinator health problems. She studies interactions between different pathogens and their influence on pollinator health and longevity, as well as the spillover of pathogens between species and its consequences for the pollinator landscape. Anna Gajda i san experienced educator teaching students at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Warsaw University of Life Sciences in both Polish and English. She spreads awareness about the importance of pollinators and their diseases as part of her extension work with beekeepers in Europe. She is an extensionist giving talks as an invited speaker on conferences and courses on beekeeper meetings in different European countries. She also often serves as an advisor for veterinary doctors and beekeepers in the field of bee health. She very often publishes articles in popular-science beekeeping journals, so the beekeepers stay on top of bee health knowledge and management. She promotes girls and women in bee science giving tchem opportunities to experience Research in hands-on experiments in the Honeybee Diseases Lab that she runs. She runs a laboratory of bee diseases in which not only Research, but also bee/brood sample examination for beekeepers takes place. As a head of the Department of Pathology and Veterinary Diagnostics she manages over 40 scientists, teachers, technicians and administrators. For 8 consecutive years she was an active Executive Committee member of the international CoLoss network that gathers honeybee and bumblebee scientists from all over the World, which gives her a unique opportunity for international scientific community outreach. She is also a member of Management Committee of Polish Scientific Board for Beekeeping and a founding member of the Research Network for Sustainable Bee Breeding. She co-authored the Polish National Pollinator Protection Strategy, as well as many other publications and books.
