Duties: The researcher will focus on several large sets of samples and data relating to the distribution, transmission and genetic adaptation of viruses in different bee species; how this is affected by landscape context, (floral) contact networks, bee density, other bee species and season; and how this affects bee health at individual, colony and population level. The data ranges from landscape to molecular level. The work involves mostly data analysis, a little field-work and writing scientific articles.

Qualifications: A PhD in biology, virology, population genetics or environmental science is required. You will also have experience with organizing and managing large and complex databases; with a range of startistical and bioinformatic techniques to analyze these data; be competent in writing code in at least R, with Pearl and other computer languages a significant advantage. Much emphasis in our recruitment will be placed on soft skills, e.g. the ability to work tidily, effectively, responsibly and congenially in a group context with shared facilities; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English. You will be able to work independently and effectively towards clear goals. Practical experience managing honeybee colonies will be a significant advantage.
