This is a 12-month, non-tenure-accruing, Instructional Assistant Professor/Lecturer track faculty position that will be 100% teaching housed in the Entomology and Nematology Department within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida. A successful candidate with a Ph.D. degree would be eligible to use the ‘Instructional Assistant Professor’ working title.
This position will support the teaching mission of our large and expanding undergraduate and graduate programs in Entomology, specifically our introductory course in entomology and our beekeeping program. The successful candidate will teach two courses each semester (fall, spring, summer) as well as serve as the faculty coordinator for the Principles of Entomology lab and the certificate coordinator for our programs in beekeeping. The courses taught will include a mix of in-person and online courses including (1) three courses related to apiculture, honey bees, and/or beekeeping, (2) one introductory entomology course, Principles of Entomology. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the Department and IFAS.
The successful candidate is encouraged to participate in scholarly activities related to instruction, which may include participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, supervising undergraduate and graduate students, conducting and publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, or engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising.
Qualifications:
Required: A M.S. degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in entomology, nematology, biology, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationships. Meaningful teaching experience, ideally including experience with distance education is also required. Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting a varied students, either on-line, in person, or both. Candidates must also have a demonstrated commitment to UF core values.
Preferred: A Ph.D. degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in entomology, nematology, biology, or a closely related discipline is preferred (required for use of the ‘Instructional Assistant Professor’ working title). Preference will be given to individuals with one or more of the following: (1) experience teaching apiculture or beekeeping courses, (2) online teaching experience, (3) student mentorship, leadership or advising potential, and/or (4) experience in curriculum development.

The Entomology & Nematology Department is housed in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences with locations in Gainesville FL and around the state at Research and Education Centers. Our undergraduate and graduate entomology program are both among the largest in the country with a variety of subject areas. Non-thesis distance M.S. and on-line certificate programs are also an important component of our teaching efforts. Course offerings attract students in diverse majors from across colleges within the university.
