About

I have a PhD in Biology and I am currently a researcher for the National Scientific and Technical
Research Council (CONICET) in Argentina. I work at the Institute of Genetics of the National
Institute for Agricultural Technology (INTA, Argentina). My research background is in genetics
and insect behaviour, with a particular focus on Drosophila, true fruit flies (Anastrepha fraterculus) and Apis mellifera. My main interest is evolutionary genetics and the study of the
adaptive value of traits. In the last few years I have been studying the mechanisms of social
immunity in Argentinian bee hives, with the aim of exploring the complex interaction between the
bee and its main parasite, Varroa destructor, and the defence mechanisms displayed by the bee
hives. Aside from research, I very much enjoy teaching and have been a lecturer in the Faculty of
Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires, for more than 10 years. The subjects that I
teach include Genetics, Evolution, and Theoretical Systematics.
