About

My researching profile is aimed to Animal Health focused on Veterinary Parasitology and Bee Pathology especially in transmissible diseases. In the line of Bee Pathology by transmissible diseases I have worked in the most important parasitic and infectious bee diseases mainly in Nosema spp. disease. In this topic I have focused on the development of new treatments for the control of varroosis toxicity assays in honeybees and clinical assays in bee colonies together with the detection of new agents and the studies about the pathogenicity epidemiological related factors response and pathological repercussions of these agents. I have also acquired high experience working in other honey bee diseases as Acarapisosis Tripanosomosis AFB EFB Ascospherosis and those caused by some viruses. I have been the supervisor of 5 PhD students who have developed their researching activities in those pathological agents. I have managed and coordinated several researching projects (more than 10) funded by Spanish or EU governments. My team has developed new techniques for experimental infection histological analysis and quick diagnostic methods based on multiplex PCR to process a high numbers of samples. Inside the Veterinary Parasitology area I have focused mainly on Veterinary Entomology in aspects related with ixodids ticks as their maintenance under laboratory conditions studies about the physiology immunology and control of these arthropods and the epidemiological role of the parasitic arthropods in the transmission of diseases (ixodids oribatids acari bee acari) and their vectorial capacity. On the other hand during my professional career I have acquired experience in several laboratory techniques and animal health knowledge and practicing. In this way I have capability for the following lines: – Clinical assays with Apis mellifera. Beekeeping management experimental infections under laboratory conditions in adult bees and brood. – Development of medicines for Apiculture. Elaboration of dossier on the toxicology safety and residues in bee products. Studies on different substances and antibiotics (for oral or topic administration) in laboratory and field assays. – Toxicity assays of acaricide Gastrointestinal and haematic parasitic diseases ectoparasitic diseases and arthropod- transmissible diseases. – Development of microbiological and parasitic techniques and of molecular biology and serological techniques for the diagnostic and research in transmissible diseases: PCR Q-PCR Gene expression studies. Development of diagnostic tools. – Development of serological techniques for the study of immune response in host and infected animals. Study of lesions and of pathological alterations associated. Immunological studies in insects. – Welfare and Health of experimental animals. – Teaching for graduate and undergraduate students.
