ABOUT
The BEEScholars: Boosting Education and Extension of Fellow Scholars Task Force (BeeScholars TF) is a collective of emerging honey bee scientists dedicated to advancing the education and professional development of the next generation of researchers in beekeeping and pollinator science. Our mission is to create a multinational network that fosters collaboration, produces high-quality educational resources, and strengthens connections between early-career scientists and experienced professionals.
We focus on supporting young researchers by providing accessible learning opportunities, organizing training events, and encouraging international collaboration. Our work spans a range of topics related to honey bee science, aiming to enhance the education and research skills of future scholars.
RECENT ACTIVITIES
The BEEScholars TF is in the early stages of its journey, and we are excited about the progress we’ve made so far in expanding our impact within the global beekeeping and pollinator research community.
Training Extension in Padua, Italy (February 8th, 2025): we organized our first training workshop, bringing together early-career scientists and Italian experts for Aethina tumida identification. In fact, in September 2014 Aethina was detected for the first time in Calabria (Sourthern part of Italy) and nowadays its presence, thanks to complete local restrictions and to an efficient surveillance in the entire national territory based on clinical checks of apiaries taking into account the epidemiological situation and the size of the local beekeeping heritage, remains limited to an area of Calabria and in north-eastern Sicily. Furthermore Italian and French scientists expert in honey bee nutritional analysis, taught the young researchers several techniques for hemolymph, as well as fat body extraction.
We’re just getting started! Looking ahead, we have some exciting plans, including a series of educational webinars and many more activities to come. Stay tuned for updates as we continue working to empower the next generation of honey bee scientists and foster global collaboration.
