The post

The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a new research project to measure and model their impact of invasive Asian hornets on managed and wild pollinators. This BBSRC-funded post is available for three years on a full time basis.

The successful applicant will work with Professors Osborne and Tyler to further develop methods to detect Asian hornet nests with speed and efficiency, measure how Asian hornets affect managed and wild pollinators, and predict the potential impact on honeybee colonies and wild pollinators in the UK using our bee models.

The post will include fieldwork in France and the Channel Islands.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in social Hymenoptera and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to undertake ecological/ethological fieldwork with social Apidae and/or Vespidae, work collaboratively with project partners, write research papers, and research bids. Clean driving licence essential. French language skills are highly desirable.
