Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada postdoctoral positions

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada seeks interested candidates for two postdoctoral positions to work in Beaverlodge, Alberta with Dr. Steve Pernal and members of his laboratory.

The first position is to lead innovative research into the development of a novel miticide, documenting its efficacy and potential effects on queens, colony growth and larval development. This position is for 2.5 years and is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026.

The second position is focussed on the management and physiology of wintering queens under cold temperate conditions of the Canadian prairies. This position is for 2 years and will begin during the summer or fall of 2026.

Both positions require a Ph.D. in apiculture, biological sciences or related disciplines. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or if non-Canadian, must be able to obtain a permit to work in Canada.

Interested parties should provide: (1) a cover letter detailing your interest and fit for the position, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) contact information for three references to: steve.pernal@agr.gc.ca.

Applicants are encouraged to apply by 4 Feb 2026, however applications will be reviewed until suitable candidates are found.

Contact Dr. Pernal directly to learn more about these opportunities. Please feel free to share this information with your relevant networks.
