I head the parasitology laboratory at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, where we are (among other things) the national (Norwegian) reference laboratory for parasites in bees. Although much of our research to date has not been about bees, being largely focussed on zoonotic parasites, food and waterborne parasites, anthelminthic resistance, and pathogen-pathogen interactions in the intestine, we are becoming increasingly interested in interactions of bee parasites (not just Varroa) with other parameters that may affect bee health – particularly nutrition and environmental factors (particularly climate and food availability).
Introduction of alien species and effects of globalisation, and how these interact with the pressures on bee health from parasites are also of interest.
