About

Dr. Eliza Matuszewska-Mach specializes in the bioanalysis of complex natural matrices, with a primary focus on the multi-omics (proteomics and metabolomics) characterization of honeybee products. Utilizing advanced mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF MS and LC-MS/MS), her research explores the biochemical, functional, and toxicological profiles of Apis mellifera larvae, venom, pollen, propolis, and royal jelly.

Currently, she leads a comprehensive project investigating honeybee larvae, assessing not only their potential as a novel functional food but also their role as bioindicators of environmental health. A critical pillar of her work involves screening hive products and bee brood for pesticide residues, heavy metals, and microbial pathogens. By mapping how environmental pollutants bioaccumulate in the hive and impact different developmental stages and castes, Dr. Matuszewska-Mach’s research provides vital toxicological data. Her work contributes to a deeper understanding of the anthropogenic and environmental stressors driving honeybee colony losses, aligning directly with the global conservation efforts of the COLOSS network.
