About

Joanna Jaramillo-Silva joined the Entomology and Nematology Department at the University of Florida as a Fulbright Scholar from Colombia in 2020. Her present research focuses on the resource value of native and non-native plants to pollinators under different irrigation treatments in Florida. Previously, she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biological Sciences at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogota, where she participated in numerous research addressing stingless bee taxonomy in joint projects with Kansas University. She is a former scholar of the Israeli international Development Agency (MASHAV) in Israel, where she participated in an apicultural management and pollination byproducts course. She also worked as a young researcher for the Ministry of Sciences in Colombia, and as a young professional at Agrosavia (Agricultural Research Center), addressing questions in pollination ecology and stingless bee behavior in agricultural and urban systems. She enjoys reading, traveling, and watching movies in her free time.
